Nanshan Lecture Temple, a historic Buddhist monastery with a profound legacy, was originally established during the mid-Southern Song Dynasty. Located in Hangzhou, the temple once thrived as a significant center of Buddhist teachings under the guidance of Chan Master Fayan Wenying, the seventh patriarch of the Chan school, who was ordained and propagated the Dharma here. Unfortunately, the temple suffered destruction in modern times and was only reconstructed after the Reform and Opening-Up era.
In recent years, led by Master Changle, Nanshan Lecture Temple has experienced a revival of Buddhist study and practice. Weekly Buddhist lectures are held every Saturday at noon, complemented by regular public welfare activities, such as traditional cultural exchanges and mindfulness workshops. The temple is devoted to harmonizing Buddhist teachings with contemporary life, transforming itself into a sanctuary for those burdened by life’s challenges, offering a space to ease the mind, release stress, and find spiritual solace.
With its elegant and timeless architectural style, Nanshan Lecture Temple is both a spiritual haven and a cultural treasure. Visitors can immerse themselves in the profound serenity of this historic site while participating in its dedicated Buddhist requiem services, designed to offer comfort, blessings, and transcendental support for the departed.
